The Background

Started with a simple observation

There's a pattern that shows up repeatedly when you talk to working tradespeople in the UK. They are skilled at what they do. Their existing customers think highly of them. But when someone in their area searches for the service they provide, they don't appear. Not because of anything they're doing wrong. Simply because they've never had time to sort the online side of things.

The tools to fix this have existed for years. Google Business Profile is free. Fast, functional websites can be built without code and hosted for nothing. Review systems can be automated with a simple text message. The problem isn't access to tools, it's knowing which ones to use, in what order, and how to set them up correctly for a local service business.

Lightinuk was built to bridge that gap. The five modules represent the exact sequence that makes sense for a working tradesperson: get found first, then convert that visibility into bookings, then build a system for maintaining and measuring it.

Why Dartford, why trades?

The service is based in Dartford, Kent, but the modules are applicable to any local service business operating anywhere in the UK. The focus on trades specifically comes from working closely with plumbers, electricians, cleaners and similar businesses and seeing first-hand which approaches work within the constraints of a one-person or small-team operation. That specificity matters. A generic marketing guide doesn't account for the fact that you can't answer the phone while you're on a job, or that your customers are searching on a phone outside a property you're about to visit.

The content in each module has been developed and refined through that real-world context. The templates aren't adapted from general business advice. They're written for the way trades businesses actually operate.

What This Is Built On

Four principles behind every module

Free tools only

Every tool covered is free at the level a small trades business needs. No subscription pushed, no affiliate link. If something requires money, that's stated clearly.

Respect for your time

The modules are designed to be completed in evenings or weekends. No module requires you to stop working to implement it. The ongoing maintenance is minimal by design.

Built for trades

Every example, every template, every scenario is drawn from a trades context. Plumbing, electrical, cleaning, decorating. Not adapted from retail or hospitality.

Measurable outcomes

Each module ends with a clear way to know if it's working. Not vague improvements, but specific things you can observe in your Google Business Profile and website data.

Who This Helps

Independent, local, service-based

Lightinuk is designed for businesses where the owner is also the person doing the work. That creates specific constraints that larger business guides don't account for. You don't have a marketing team. You can't monitor your inbox during a job. Your customers are in a defined geographic area and they're searching on their phone.

The modules work particularly well for businesses that have been operating primarily through word of mouth and want to extend their reach into online search without disrupting what's already working. The approach is additive, not a replacement for the relationships and reputation you've already built.
