The Curriculum

What the five modules cover

Each module focuses on one part of your online presence. Together they form a complete, self-sufficient system that runs on free tools.

01

Google Business Profile Setup

The foundation of local search visibility

When someone searches for a trade in their area, the results they see first aren't websites. They're Google Business Profiles. That map panel with photos, reviews, opening hours and a phone number. Before they ever visit a website, most people decide whether to call based on what they see in that panel.

This module starts from the beginning. Claiming your profile if you haven't already. Verifying it with Google, which is a step many skip and then wonder why their profile doesn't appear. Getting every field completed, because incomplete profiles rank lower than complete ones. Choosing the right primary and secondary categories so Google knows exactly what services you offer. Writing a business description that uses the words customers actually type. Adding photos that build trust before the first conversation.

The screen recording walks through the full process in real time, including the parts that trip people up like the verification postcard and the category selection. The checklist lets you confirm every step without relying on memory.

One-Page Website That Loads Fast

A website that works as hard as you do

A slow website loses the visitor before they read a single word. On a mobile connection, if a page takes more than three seconds to load, a large proportion of visitors leave. The solution isn't a complex multi-page site with lots of images. It's a focused single-page site that answers the questions a new customer has, loads quickly, and makes it easy for them to contact you.

This module covers which free website platforms work for trades businesses and why. How to structure a single page so it covers what the customer needs to know: what you do, where you operate, why they should choose you, and how to get in touch. What to include in your header to capture mobile users immediately. How to add your scheduling link so visitors can book without calling.

The content prompt sheet removes the blank page problem. You answer a set of questions about your business and the answers become your website content. No copywriting experience needed.

What's included

  • Platform comparison and setup recording
  • Page structure template
  • Content prompt sheet
  • Speed optimisation checklist
  • Google Business Profile connection guide

Collecting and Responding to Reviews

Building trust before the first phone call

Reviews are the most visible trust signal in local search. A business with a dozen recent reviews and thoughtful responses to each one will consistently convert more profile visitors into enquiries than one with fewer reviews or no responses. The challenge for busy tradespeople isn't getting customers to leave reviews, it's building a consistent habit of asking at the right moment.

This module covers the timing that makes asking feel natural rather than awkward, the exact wording of messages that get responses, and how to set up a simple follow-up if the first request doesn't get a reply. It also covers the part most guides skip: responding to reviews in a way that demonstrates professionalism both to the reviewer and to future customers reading the exchange.

The negative review guide is particularly practical. A well-handled negative review can demonstrate more about your character than a dozen five-star ones.

What's included

  • System setup recording
  • Four request message templates
  • Response guide for all review types
  • Negative review handling guide
  • Follow-up sequence template

Free Scheduling Tools

Eliminating phone tag and missed bookings

Phone tag is one of the most persistent frustrations in running a trades business. A potential customer calls while you're on a job. You call back during your lunch. They're in a meeting. They call again that evening. By then, they've already found someone else. Free scheduling tools solve this without requiring you to change how you work.

This module covers three free scheduling tools and compares them honestly for a trades use case. The setup process for the one that suits your situation. How to embed a booking link in your Google Business Profile so customers can schedule directly from your search result. How to set your available windows so you're not being booked at inconvenient times. How to connect the scheduling tool to your existing calendar, whether that's Google Calendar or Apple Calendar, so nothing clashes.

The module also covers how to handle the transition from your current booking method so existing customers aren't confused.

What's included

  • Tool comparison recording
  • Setup walkthrough for recommended tools
  • Calendar integration guide
  • Profile booking link setup
  • Transition guide for existing clients

Tracking Where Enquiries Come From

Spending time on what's actually working

Without some form of tracking, it's impossible to know whether the time you've invested in your online presence is translating into enquiries. You might get a call and have no idea whether it came from your Google Business Profile, your website or a recommendation. That uncertainty means you can't make good decisions about where to focus.

This module covers the free analytics built into Google Business Profile, which shows you how many people have viewed your profile, called you from it, or asked for directions. It covers Google Search Console, which shows what search terms people used to find your website. And it introduces a simple monthly review process that takes under fifteen minutes and tells you the three things that matter most: where your visitors are coming from, which pages they're looking at, and whether anything changed since last month.

The monthly template is a spreadsheet you fill in once a month. After six months you'll have a clear picture of what's driving enquiries and what you can stop worrying about.

What's included

  • Analytics setup recording
  • Monthly tracking spreadsheet
  • What to look for guide
  • Search Console setup
  • Interpretation guide for non-technical readers
